Zamia ipetiensis

Zamia ipetiensisZamia ipetiensis is from Panama in a region also inhabited by the Ipeti people, for whom it is named. Zamia ipetiensis has a subterranean stem which grows to 4 inches in diameter, and leaves growing up to 4-5 feet long. These leaves have an almost plastic feel to them.

Zamia ipetiensis is threatened because its habitat consists of only two small populations in the wild, and is being destroyed for agriculture. Apparently, some of the local people grow it in the edges and borders of their gardens.
