This is the "Holy Grail" of the cycad world. Encephalartos woodii is one of the rarest cycads, and is considered extinct in the wild. It was originally discovered by John Medley Wood, the curator of the Durban Botanical Gardens, in 1895, as a clump of plants in the Ngoye Forest of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa.
E. woodii is not only in high demand because of its rarity, but also because of its beauty. It is fast growing (for a cycad) and quite beautiful.
This print is a reproduction from the original painting completed by Douglas Goode in 1997. It measures nearly 12" x 16".
