Dioon holmgrenii is a rare species from the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, where there are only a few populations remaining of this plant. It is one of the faster growing Dioons among the finer leafed species. Its leaves are silver-blue-green, with sharply pointed, evenly spaced leaflets sharp, with few spines. It is heat-tolerant, sun-tolerant and frost-tolerant.
