This silver-leafed plant is heat, sun and cold-tolerant. It was previously considered a form of the Dioon edule.
Dioon angustifolium gets its name from its narrow leaflets, as "angusti" is Latin for "narrow". Among other features, compared to Dioon edule, D. angustifolium has finer leaflets, which are bluer when young. They often emerge bright a bright orange-red color, before fading to a bluish-green. According to the Palm and Cycad Society of Australia (PACSOA) website, D. angustifolium "is often regarded as a more attractive garden plant" than D. edule.
