Araucaria araucana is native to the Andes Mountains between Chile and Argentina, it is a very cold hardy relative of the Norfolk Island pine (Araucaria heterophylla). The Monkey Puzzle tree's leaves are dark green, and needle-like, making this an unfriendly climbing tree, thus the comment "It would be a puzzle for a monkey to climb this tree".
Araucaria araucana is a unique plant for a connoisseur's garden, with its prehistoric and exotic image. It grows to become a dramatic specimen.
