This set includes the following Dioon species: Dioon angustifolium Large Seedling This gray-green Dioon has longer, narrower leaflets than the somewhat similar-looking D. edule. It is xerophytic and tolerant of both heat and cold, though D. angustifolium may be less frost-tolerant than D. edule or D. califanoi. Dioon edule 1"-1.5" Caudex Size Plant This complex of flat-leafed, sun-loving plants is popular for its tolerance of heat and cold and attractive, stiff, blue- to gray-green colored leaves. Grows best in part to full sun. Dioon merolae Large Seedling This Mexican native is a medium-sized, fast growing plant well suited to warm temperate and tropical climates. Its leaves, hairy when immature, are dark green and stiff when mature. This plant can be damaged by frost, so it should be protected where temperatures drop below freezing. Dioon califanoi Large Seedling This plant is known for its characteristic "reclining" stems—a trait that emerges in maturity. Leaflets are deeply V-ed, gray to gray-green and stiff. In habitat, D. califanoi is typically found in full sun, in poor, rocky soil. It grows even with very little water and tolerates heat as well as frost. Dioon spinulosum Large Seedling One of the most popular Dioons, spinulosum is a fast growing cycad with stiff, shiny and bright green leaves that grow in an upright nest shape. Native to Mexico, these plants perfer subtropical or tropical climates. They prefer partial shade or filtered sun and are frost hardy down to the mid low 20's.
