Cycas petraea
This large and rare new species from Thailand is well adapted to temperate and subtropical climates. It has short and flat leaves with 32-40 dark green - very glossy - and slightly waxy leaflets on either side and are carried on a fairly long petiole.
Cycas revoluta "Showa"
"Showa", a special compact form of Cycas revoluta is native to Japan. This cultivar is very vigorus and produces twice as many frondis as regular Cycas revoluta. Its trunk is extremely dark in color - almost black and the leaves are tighter and darker in color.
Cycas taitungensis
Superficially similar in form to the sago palm, C. taitungensis is a vigorous grower that has leaflets that are longer, broader and flatter than its more famous cousin. This species is quite cold-tolerant, able to survive temperatures as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Grows best in full sun.
Cycas litoralis
This Southeast Asian cycad is named for its native coastal habitat. Mature specimens have numerous glossy, bright green leaves which are somewhat sickle-shaped and pale on their undersides. Prefers full sun to moderate shade.
Cycas pectinata
Native to the hill forests of India, this species has deep green semi-glossy leaves 5-8 ft long and 1/3 to 1/2 inch in width and can grow up to 40 ft tall.
