| Lepidozamia hopeiLepidozamia hopei is native to the rainforests of north-eastern Queensland. It can grow to be the tallest growing of all living cycads growing to up to 60+ feet tall. Its trunk grows to 12 inches in diameter, with long, arching, pinnate leaves, up to 10 feet long, glossy green leaflets, 9-12 inches long, and up to 1.25 inches wide. While it is similar in appearance to Lepidozamia. peroffskyana, it grows much taller and larger, with significantly wider leaflets. Lepidozamia hopei grows well in sub-tropical and tropical climates. It prefers shade, and, unlike many cycads, can handle moisture well.
WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
