| Until the mid-1970's, the genus Cycas in Australia was listed mostly under the species C. media and one or two others. This breakthrough book, published in 1990, brought forth the thesis that there are many more Cycas species than were previously thought, including various species of numerous color forms. This is a non-technical book on the Australian representatives of this genus, which includes 14 species and has a widespread distribution and a wide diversity of form. It contains color and b/w photos throughout. WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
