| Also known as the Furry Cycad, this plant is native to South Africa and Swaziland and is the widest spread cycad in southern Africa. It derives its name from its densely wooly crown and juvenile leaves. This small to medium sized, clumping cycad lives in a forest habitat. Its largely subterranean trunk grows up to 1 ft. tall. Its leaves are dark glossy green, and grow up to 10 feet long. This plant prefers a lightly shaded, moist, well drained position in mild climates. A good landscaping plant, with its long graceful leaves, it can be frost sensitive.
WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
