Encephalartos transvenosus x woodii is a desirable cross with hybrid vigor. It is generally considered to be the best Encephalartos woodii cross by South Africans, more vigorous and with a more attractive growth habit than Encephalartos natalensis x woodii. An interesting feature of Encephalartos transvenosus x woodii is that its leaflets curl upward toward the leaf end, like the lobster claw manner of Encephalartos woodii, while they have similar marginal spines as Encephalartos transvenosus. WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age.
