This is a digital collection of photographs documenting the great diversity of forms of Encephalartos natalensis found in various locations in South Africa. For each ecotype, a set of photographs shows details of the plant’s leaf structure and leaflet shape. The contents of this CD represent the beginning of a South African project to make detailed photographic records of all the Encephalartos species in that country. WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
