| Please click here for larger plants of this species. Also known as the Vanduzi Cycad, the Encephalartos manikensis complex is a group of large cycads growing in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Plants in this complex have robust, straight trunks of up to 5 feet in height, dark green leaves with short petioles, medium-sized spiny leaflets and green cones. In cultivation, this plant is easily grown, and grows fast for a cycad. It can tolerate regular water and feeding in warm weather, as well as moderate sun. While it can tolerate full sun, its leaves grow a little shorter. WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
