| To see larger size plants of this species, please click on the following link: Larger Plants of this Species (Please click on the image to enlarge it.) Last year, we have brought in a limited number of seeds of a relatively unique and rare variety of Encephalartos manikensis--one with hooked leaflets, from the Vanduzi district of Mozambique. This is a large form from Mozambique. Fortunately--the owner was able to get pollen from a male plant that came from the same seed batch he originally got a botanical garden over 12 years ago. The Encephalartos manikensis complex is a group of large cycads growing in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Plants in this complex have fat--straight trunks of up to 5 feet in height--leaves with short petioles--medium-sized spiny leaflets and green cones.< WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
