This plant, also known as Encephalartos bandula, is a member of the Encephalartos manikensis complex, a group of large cycads growing in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Plants in this complex have fat, straight trunks of up to 5 feet in height, leaves with short petioles, medium-sized spiny leaflets and green cones. In the picture here, you will see a female plant, with two cones, next to which has been placed a male cone, for reference. We have also attached a leaflet picture for you to see its size.
Encephalartos bandula grows in the Bandula Hill region of Mozambique. Its features are significantly different from other forms of this species. This species is relatively unique among Encephalartos, in that the male and female cones of this species are similar. Also, its leaflets are generally shorter and wider than other forms. Although there are no firm proposals to name this a unique species, there is a possibility of it being considered a different species or a sub-species at some point in the future.
We have a very limited number of these seeds available at the following prices:
1-4 Seeds: $10.00/seed
5-9 Seeds: $7.00/seed
10-49 Seeds: $5/seed
50-99 Seeds: $3.50/seed
100+ Seeds: $2.50/seed

These seeds have been harvested from artificially propagated plants in the United States. They are available for sale in the U.S.A. only at this time, as the permitting process for export is unfortunately quite extensive and not cost-effective at this point.

WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE?

You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.

Approximate
Caudex Size
Container
Size
Up to 1 Inch 1-2 Gallon
1 Inch to 3 Inch 3-5 Gallon
3 Inches to 7 Inches 15 Gallon
7 Inches and Up 24 Inch Box
