| These are all seedlings, now. Please click your way over to the seedling section of this website. We have just obtained a limited supply of seeds of the very rare Central African Cycad, Encephalartos macrostrobilus. These seeds were obtained in a trade, and were produced from a domestic source, artificially propagated here in the USA. We have previously tested these seeds from this same source, and have had a 90% germination rate. E. macrostrobilus is found near Madi Opei, in the far northwest of Uganda, very near the Sudan border. It grows in poor, sandy soil along river beds in light shade, among granite boulders in a savannah environment. This cycad grows in a remote and rather dangerous locale, so, while it is probably not in danger of extinction, it is extremely hard to get to, and there may be other undiscovered populations of this plant yet to be discovered. Stems of this species reach 8 feet tall, 12-18 inches in diameter. The rigid, erect leaves grow to 6-7 feet long, with 30-60 leaves flushing in each new whorl, recurving at the ends. Since this species is virtually unknown in cultivation, it is extremely rare. Seedlings currently sell for $125-$200 apiece, for 1 ½ to 2 year old plants, so I believe that an investment in this seed will pay off dramatically. Our pricing is as follows: 1-9 seeds: $10.00 apiece 10-49 seeds: $8.00 apiece 50-99 seeds: $7.50 apiece 100 seeds: $7.00 apiece To enable every interested party to get some seeds, we are limiting individual purchases to 100 seeds maximum. These seeds have been harvested from artificially propagated plants in the United States. They are available for sale in the U.S.A. only at this time, as the permitting process for export is unfortunately quite extensive and not cost-effective at this point. Sprouted E. ituriensis Seeds You Save, We Grow for You $62.50 WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
