| These seeds are now stocked out for the season. We should have seedlings this coming spring 2011 This is the true highly rare Dwarf Form of this exquisite blue plant from Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Those who are familiar with this plant know that the only true Dwarf Form of this species is native to the region immediately surrounding Port Elizabeth. When we accessed the Hewson Collection in 2002, this was perhaps the most difficult plant to get imported into the USA. Not because of any permitting issue, but because the South Africans were willing to pay nearly what US buyers would pay for these rare plants. The two parents of these seeds come from imported Hewson Collection plants -- classic "Dwarf Form" with leaves which are about 1/2 as long as the regular E. horridus, with leaflets 1/2 as long, but nearly as wide. WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
