Also known as the "Holly Leaf Cycad" this plant grows along the coastline of South Africa and Mozambique, often in pure sand. It is one of the most beautiful and interesting of the African cycads. It is fast growing, easy to grow, and features bright red cones. The Holly Leafed Cycad usually grows under tree cover, which protects it from direct sun—it does well growing in part shade, requires excellent drainage and does particularly well in deep sandy soil. Its trunk can reach 3-5 ft in height over time, with leaves up to 6 feet long. Its leaflets grow up to 6 inches long and 3 inches wide.
