It maintains a waxen coating on its leaves and cones, unlike any other species of Encephalartos. Described in 1989, only 2 small colonies of this species have ever been found. Unfortunately, these colonies no longer exist. WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
