| Encephalartos altensteinii x lehmanniiFor cycad collectors, Encephalartos altensteinii x lehmannii represents the “holy grail” -- a blue plant with long leaves. But you don't have to be a connoiseur to appreciate these striking, vigorous growers. Leaves are a beautiful blue-silver-green color. My good friend Jeff Chemnick introduced me to this beautiful cross between Encephalartos altensteinii and Encephalartos lehmannii. As soon as I saw it, I planted it in my garden, right next to the Encephalartos horridus!
WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
