Also known as the Alexandria Cycad, this plant is native to the coastal sand-dunes of the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. It is a medium-sized cycad, with a trunk to about 4-5 ft. long, either erect, or reclining. It requires excellent drainage (i.e. sandy soil), and prefers light shade or moderate sun. It should be protected from frost. The Alexandria Cycad is distinguished by the slightly dull silver or grey sheen of its adult leaves, and its gracefully lobed leaflets.
Two forms of this plant are currently available in the nursery, one with Blue Leaves, the other with the more traditional Blue-Green Leaves.
A third "form", the Encephalartos arenarius "Blue Form", is currently not in stock, but we do have photos listed below.
The discount for the month of January, 2008, is for plants of 5" caudex size or greater which we will discount by 20% when we process your order.
