Dyckia "Red Devil"

Dyckia "Red Devil"

Dyckia "Red Devil," a.k.a. Red-leafed Dyckia, grows in 12-inch-tall to 15-inch-wide clumps. Deep-green leaves tinged with rich rusty-red form rosettes, with leaf color intensifying if plants are situated in full sun. In late spring small orange flowers emerge on slender, branched, 2-to-3 foot tall inflorescences. Dyckia "Red Devil" should be planted in bright light (in coastal areas, full sun is best) to enhance this cultivar's rich color. Dyckia plants are drought-tolerant but prefer good drainage; they require little irrigation. This plant's flowers are said to be particularly attractive to hummingbirds.
