| Dyckia SpeciesDyckia is a genus of 120 terrestrial bromeliads. Dyckia are striking rare plants native to central South America, primarily Brazil. Dyckia plants are related to the pineapple and easy to grow. They like well-drained soil and enjoy ample water in summer. For pot culture, they like to have room to allow for root growth. Dyckia plants love exposed full sun positions in a garden. Dyckia have stiff and usually spiny leaves. Their native habitats are often rocky. Most Dyckia species grow in a clumping habit, often forming large mats. Dyckia flowers emerge from the side of the leaf rosette and are usually yellow to orange.
WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
