| These are all seedlings, now. Please click your way over to the seedling section of this website. This rare form of Dioon is similar to D. merolae, but faster growing and larger in most aspects (particularly the seeds which are up to 50% larger). It has a dense, often golden, tomentum (fuzz, for you non-botanists) that covers the emerging new leaves. This cycad is native to the state of Oaxaca in Mexico. The original form of Dioon merolae comes from the Chiapas state in Mexico. The Oaxaca form is found most predominantly near a town called Santiago La Chiguiri. Pictured above is a seedling from the collection of Darin Yeatman, the fine gentleman who runs the Cycad Society Seedbank. These seeds are available at the following prices (plus shipping): Up to 20 seeds $4.00 per seed 20-99 seeds $3.00 per seed 100-199 seeds $2.50 per seed 200+ seeds $2.00 per seed Sprouted E. ituriensis Seeds You Save, We Grow for You $62.50 WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
