Dioon edule "Palma Sola", a variant within the Dioon edule complex from Mexico, may be its own subspecies. Within the Dioon edule complex, Dioon edulePalma Sola” is faster growing and larger in nearly every way--Its mature overall plant size of is more substantial (up to 6 feet tall), the leaf width and spacing are greater (up to 3 feet long leaves), and its seed cone is more sizeable than other Dioon edule variants. Its distinctive stiff and comb-like bluish green leaves are significantly more keeled (V-shaped) than other plants in the complex, making this perhaps the most impressive Dioon in the Dioon edule complex. Dioon edule "Palma Sola" grows well in both container and garden. Good drainage is important for this plant. They grow well in part to full sun.
