| To see larger size plants of this species, please click on the following link: Larger Plants of this Species Dioon edule may be the most cold-tolerant cycad. This blue-green leafed cycad grows a trunk to over 12 feet tall and 12-20 inches in diameter. Its leaves grow from 3-6 feet long - with flat leaflets inserted at 90° on the rachis. The leaflets are straight and narrowly lanceolate - all of the same color - not overlapping - with flat and entire margins. The median leaflets are 2.5-5 inches .2-.4 inches wide. WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
