Dioon edule var. "Rio Verde"

Dioon edule var. "Rio Verde"

The Dioon edule complex of flat-leafed, sun-loving plants is popular for its tolerance of heat and cold and attractive, stiff, blue- to gray-green colored leaves. Dioon edule Rio Verde variety grows in nothern Mexico, in Sierra Nevada mountains in the state of San Luis Potosi. There, it grows at elevations exceeding 1000 ft., resulting in cold hardiness down to 15 degrees F. Dioon edule Rio Verde has silver-blue leaves, with longer and wider leaflets than the traditional Dioon edule from Veracruz. Full sun exposure will cause a more blue leaf color.

Dioon edule "Rio Verde" grows well in both a container and in the garden. Good drainage is very important for this plant.
