| This Dioon is very cold hardy and drought resistant. It has red emergent leaves. Dioon angustifolium gets its name from its narrow leaflets, as "angusti" is Latin for "narrow". Among other features, compared to Dioon edule, D. angustifolium has finer leaflets, which are bluer when young. They often emerge bright a bright orange-red color, before fading to a bluish-green. According to the Palm and Cycad Society of Australia (PACSOA) website, D. angustifolium "is often regarded as a more attractive garden plant" than D. edule. WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
