This is the plant which outdoes the traditional “Sago Palm” in just about every way. It grows larger and faster, endures much colder temperatures by growing insulation on its trunk and leaves and quickly recovers from frost, freeze or loss of leaves. It also rarely shows nutritional deficiencies. This plant is also more resistant to scale & mealy bugs than the Sago Palm. Cycas taitungensis grows in full sun to partial shade. It is the perfect xeriscape plant, and has very high salt water tolerance. WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
