Cynthia Giddy dedicated her life to the protection and propagation of South African flora, especially succulents, aloes and cycads. This is evident in her book, Cycads of South Africa. Her detailed descriptions of 29 South African species of cycad, their habitats, history and propagation are enhanced by beautiful hand drawn illustrations and color photographs. This is the second, revised edition published by C. Struik (pty) Ltd. in 1984. It is a rare and out of print collector’s item. We currently have one copy of this book in stock. It is used, but in good condition. WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
