| Cycas guizhouensisThis rare smaller cycas is native to China’s Guizhou province - with the Latin termination -ensis - implying its place of origin. It grows in limestone and gravel soil on steep slopes and high bluffs in elevations greater than 1,300 ft above sea level. It has narrow - twisted leaflets and a relatively small stature - producing large cones. C. guizhouensis is a fast-growing species which withstands cold well - but needs to be protected from frosts - and will grow well in temperate and subtropical climates. These seedlings are from domestically acquired seed. Plants will be delivered bare root - with instructions for re-establishing them into healthy specimens.
WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
