| This book gives the reader a tour through the 10 species and 2 subspecies of cycads in Thailand. Published by Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens, where the most recent Cycad Biology Conference was held in 2002, this book is the result of the authors' efforts, combined with input and species descriptions by Ken Hill, the foremost authority on the genus Cycas. Because of its central location in Southeast Asia, Thailand has served as a dispersal route for many plants, including cycads. Cycads inhabit environments in Thailand varying from tropical rainforests, coastal climates, dry central plain forests and mountain ranges extending to the Himalayas. Until very recently, the Cycas of Southeast Asia were not well known or documented. Thanks to the efforts of the authors, combined with Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens and Ken Hill, we now have an excellent source book on these fine plants. WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
