Cycas are native to Asia, the Pacific Islands, Australia and Africa (one species). The name Cycas comes from the Greek for palm, kykas. And true to its name, the Cycas genus is the most palm-like of all cycads. A beautiful and distinguishing feature of this genus are the emerging leaflets, which start out coiled and then slowly unfurl.

You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
