Ceratozamia latifolia

Ceratozamia latifoliaThis rare and beautiful Ceratozamia is named for its broad leaflets, in Latin latus, means wide, folium, leaf. It grows in the cloud forests of the Sierra Madre Oriental of Mexico, underneath oak trees.

Over time, this plant develops an emergent trunk up to 8 inches long, and 4 inches in diameter. New leaves emerge bronze, red or chocolate brown, hardening off to light or bright green, are semiglossy, and grow to 2-4 feet long. They are flat (not keeled), with 30-80 leaflets per leaf, with unarmed leaf stalks. The leaflets are lance-shaped, asymmetric, and are broadest above middle, growing 6 inches long, to 1 inches wide.
