Encephalartos altensteinii x lehmanii represents The ultimate “holy grail” for the cycad collector -- a long-leafed blue-leafed plant. This is just that plant. Silver-blue-green, and add on hybrid vigor to the mix, and you have the ultimate blend of strong growth and a blue-silver-green leaf color. Encephalartos altensteinii x lehmanii is one of the most marvelous crosses I've seen! My good friend Jeff Chemnick introduced me to this cross between Encephalartos altensteinii and Encephalartos lehmannii resulting in a beautiful long-leafed blue plant. As soon as I saw this one, I planted it in my garden, right next to the Encephalartos horridus! WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE? You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.
