Presentation & Sale

April 15 Phoenix Area<br>Presentation & SaleOn Saturday, April 15, 2006 I'll be doing a presentation and plant sale at the home of Dr. Rich Maxwell, in Scottsdale AZ. The event is sponsored by the Arizona Palm and Cycad Association, and will take place from 1PM - 4PM. at 6627 E. Bluebird Lane Scottsdale, AZ.

I will give an interactive presentation entitled "Cycad Horticultural Practices", subtitled "How to Really Preserve and Not Kill the Endangered Species We're Growing in Our Backyards, and Why We Should!" I will give specifics on how to grow, resuscitate and propagate cycads.

Refreshments will be served at 1pm, with the presentation beginning at around 2pm. I will bring a number of Arizona hardy plants, seedling to speciman size. Afterwards, there will be a plant sale, and then I'll auction off the remaining plants, so some great values should be available. In addition, I will be donating 10% of all proceeds to the Arizona Palm & Cycad Association.

WHAT IS CAUDEX SIZE?

You’ll notice we list and price cycads by caudex size. The caudex is a cycad’s woody, bulblike trunk, and caudex size is a good measure of cycad age. The chart below can give you a rough idea of how this translates to pot size.

Approximate
Caudex Size
Container
Size
Up to 1 Inch 1-2 Gallon
1 Inch to 3 Inch 3-5 Gallon
3 Inches to 7 Inches 15 Gallon
7 Inches and Up 24 Inch Box
